Description:

This workshop will examine the extent to which the unpleasant spectrum of hate/racism/discrimination is a reality faced by multicultural societies. With a focus on racial violence a series of case studies will be presented from Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The studies will target the extent of the problem and a variety of measures, legislative and non-legislative, to combat the increase in activity along the spectrum.

The ensuing moderated discussion among panelists and participants will yield some past practices to guide future policy development and a discussion of outstanding research gaps which need to be filled.
