36. Implications of Immigrant Diversity on Small Towns and Rural Areas

Description:

The distribution of immigrants heavily favours larger, urban areas. The workshop will explore the impacts of diversity or lack of diversity in small towns and the implications of increased immigration on rural areas. During the workshop, papers and case studies will be presented on policy research related topics that may include the following - experiences of visible and ethnic minorities; conditions for attracting and retaining immigrants; socio-economic and demographic profiles of immigrants in small communities; and best practices. Questions and discussion will be invited from participants. The workshop will be of interest to policy officials and researchers in the public, private, academic and NGO sectors concerned with policy research on immigration, diversity and smaller communities.
