The International Metropolis Project is a forum for bridging research, policy and practice on migration and diversity.
The Project aims to enhance academic research capacity, encourage policy-relevant research on migration and diversity issues,
and facilitate the use of that research by governments and non-governmental organizations.

Deputy Minister Ministry of Multiculturalism and Immigration and Ministry Responsible for the Public Service and Commissioner Public Service Employee Relations Commission

Valerie Mitchell was appointed Deputy Minister and Commissioner May 2000. Previously, Valerie was the Deputy Minister, Ministry of Community Development, Cooperatives and Volunteers, appointed July 1999 and Deputy Minister of Women's Equality, appointed June 1996.

Valerie joined the Ministry of Women's Equality in 1993 as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Policy, Planning and Evaluation Division. Prior to her appointment in 1993, she held a number of positions in various provincial government ministries, including Ministry of Social Services, Ministry of Education, and Treasury Board Staff.

Valerie has a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary, majoring in Sociology and Psychology. Valerie has had extensive experience with provincial coordination of various programs involving development, implementation and evaluation of provincial policies, allocation and monitoring of budgets, consultation with field staff, and liaison with other ministries and agencies.

Valerie is married and has two daughters.
