The Project aims to enhance academic research capacity, encourage policy-relevant research on migration and diversity issues,

International Metropolis Conferences:

Major Milestones in the Bids Process

This timeline sets out the major milestones in the process governing bids for International Metropolis Conferences.  Within in each step are smaller milestones.  Successful applicants should remain in regular contact with the Secretariat and members of the International Steering Committee.

up to 5 years

Initial expressions of interest accepted and evaluated by the International Steering Committee.

at least 2.5 years

Applicants with an approved expression of interest are invited to submit a conference proposal.

2 years

Presentation of conference proposals at Fall meeting of the International Steering Committee.

Acceptance of conference proposal.  Only one conference proposal will be accepted for any given Conference year.

1.5 - 2 years

Applicants firm up logistical and thematic details for the Conference and maintain regular contact with the Secretariat and the International Steering Committee at its biannual committee meetings and International Conference.

1.5 years

Progress report at the Spring meeting of the International Steering Committee meeting.  Dates, venue, concrete themes, proposed plenary sessions, study tours and social activities and evidence of specific and continued progress is necessary.

1 year

Final approval of conference plans at the Fall meeting of the International Steering Committee.

Conference announcement and initial call for workshop proposals distributed at International Conference immediately preceding planned event.

0 - 1 year

Conference hosts ensure necessary logistical arrangements are in place and work with the Secretariat and the International Steering Committee to confirm plenary speakers, organize the workshop program, and promote the event.
