Workshop description:
The purpose of the workshop is to reflect and analyse how future labour shortages may be evaluated and the way in which foreign workers should be selected to alleviate these shortages. The first session will review the different methodology used in some OECD countries to measure future labour shortages, not only at global level but also at sectoral level. During the second session a panel of employers, social partners and policymakers will debate the role that immigration could play in alleviating labour shortages.

Summary:
The purpose of this two-stage workshop is to analyse how future labour shortages are currently evaluated and to what extent migration could help in alleviating labour shortages. The first session is analytical :
presentation of the OECD review of the methodology of country attempts to estimate labour shortages and the role that immigration could play in
alleviating labour shortages. The second session is more policy oriented :
a panel of representatives of employer organisations and trade unions will debate on the advantages and limits of selective labour immigration.
